Offer agents a Markdown version of your pages
Some agents ask for a page as Markdown, plain text with light formatting, because it's much smaller than HTML. A site can answer that request with a Markdown version of the same page.
Check X4 in the Agent experience dimension, worth 1 point of 100 and measured by software.
What we check
We request a product page with the header Accept: text/markdown. It passes when the answer comes back as text/markdown, or when the HTML links to a Markdown version with a rel="alternate" link.
Why it matters
Low impact: an emerging, cheaper way for agents to read pages.
It's worth 1 point of 100, since few agents ask for Markdown yet.
How to fix it
On Cloudflare, enable Markdown for Agents. Typical effort: 15 minutes.
- If your domain runs through your own Cloudflare account on a Pro or Business plan, turn on Markdown for Agents in AI Crawl Control. Cloudflare then converts pages to Markdown for clients that ask.
- A headless storefront can answer the request itself, by returning Markdown when the Accept header asks for it.
Check it yourself
