Give every product page complete structured data
Structured data is a block of JSON-LD in the page that states, in a form software reads without guessing, what the product is and what it costs. It's the most direct way to tell an agent the facts.
Check P1 in the Product data dimension, worth 6 points of 100 and measured by software.
What we check
On each sampled product page we look for JSON-LD of type Product or ProductGroup with the four fields Google requires for merchant listings: the name, an image, a price above 0 in offers.price, and its currency in offers.priceCurrency. The score is the average share of the four present.
We read the page as a browser renders it, so JSON-LD added by an app's script counts too. Agents that don't run scripts only see the JSON-LD in your HTML, which is what the check on product data without JavaScript measures.
Why it matters
Agents and Google merchant listings need these fields to show your product with a price.
With these fields an agent can quote your price with confidence instead of guessing it from the page.
How to fix it
Fix the Product JSON-LD in your theme or SEO app. Typical effort: half a day.
- Check your product template for a JSON-LD block. Current Shopify themes print one with the
structured_dataLiquid filter, which outputs a Product, or a ProductGroup when the product has variants. - If an SEO app also writes Product JSON-LD, keep one source. Two blocks that disagree are worse than one complete block.
- Fill in the price and the images in Shopify. A product priced at 0, such as a free sample or a placeholder, fails the price field.
Check it yourself
Paste a product URL into Google's Rich Results Test (search.google.com/test/rich-results) or the Schema Markup Validator (validator.schema.org). Both list the Product fields they find.
