Let shoppers check out without an account
When an agent hands a shopper to your checkout, a forced sign-in is one more step between them and the order.
Check C4 in the Checkout path dimension, worth 3 points of 100 and measured by software.
What we check
From the checkout the cart link opened, we check whether the contact and shipping step is reachable without signing in. It fails when checkout sends the shopper to a sign-in page, or shows a password field or a sign-in prompt without the shipping fields.
This check runs only in the full report, with your authorization.
Why it matters
An agent handing a shopper to your checkout stalls at a forced login, and the shopper may not finish.
How to fix it
Set customer accounts to optional in Shopify's checkout settings. Typical effort: 15 minutes.
- In Shopify admin, open Settings, then Checkout or Customer accounts, depending on your admin, and make accounts optional rather than required at checkout.
- Wholesale and members-only stores may require sign-in on purpose. For them this check is a trade-off they've chosen.
Check it yourself
Open a cart link in a private window and continue to checkout. If you can enter an email and a shipping address without signing in, the check passes.
